Caring for Our Community, One Donor at a Time
Our primary mission is to help living organ donors overcome the financial burdens associated with organ donation, but we also provide information and support to help donors make informed and safe decisions. We neither encourage nor discourage donation. We support donors who have decided to donate, whether to a loved one or a stranger, and work to protect the rights to all living organ donors.
Listening to donors, finding out what they need, and helping them get it, is what we are all about.
Most of our work is focused on helping donors with financial needs such as lost wages and caregiver expenses while the donor is recovering from surgery. We provide direct grants, as well as assist with individual fundraising campaigns when our general funds are low. We want to ensure donors are able to take advantage of all potential resources that are available for assistance, such as federal and state paid leave laws, assistance programs for donors, and other private charities, to maximize what they are legally allowed to obtain under the National Organ Transplant Act.
The American Living Organ Donor Fund endeavors to stop the cycle of abandonment felt by many living donors after they have donated. We help with support groups, living organ donor networks, and work for laws, regulations, and policies that protect living organ donors. Society’s obligations to living donors does not end with the transplant.
The ALODF is here to help, however we can, whenever we can.
We have never turned away an American living organ donor who has come to us for help. If we do not have the financial resources to help a donor outright with a legal and verifiable donation related expense or unpaid leave, we will offer to help the donor with fundraising to pay those expenses.
